COMPUTER
EDUCATIONAL RESOURCES
In the few years I have owned a computer and been on the
internet I have discovered many sites that provide the skills to
effectively and productively use these machines . If I can share them
with you we will all benefit.
Smartplanet
offers an ever expanding catalog of
computing courses. It is now a monthly
subscription, $14.95, allowing an unlimited number of courses
and an additional charge for premium courses. While
you pay for books and software comparable courses
are sometimes $200 to $700 and more over the
net. Using this I recommend taking the instructor
led course and the self-study tutorial
simultaneously if it is offered. It becomes more like
a normal classroom experience when using both.
LeapIt
is a new discovery for me and I am registered here
as well. I am currently taking two courses with this
organization and am impressed and satisfied. I
believe this is relatively new or at least too me.
The courses are free and you again pay for books and
software. There posting areas for sharing and
instructor assistance, many links to certification
information and in depth explanations the subject
material. The courses are given in the Windows Media
Player environment and are quite comfortable. OnlineLearning.net
is a combination of educational institutions not the
least being UCLA and is a great deal more expensive
than the previous two. I haven't yet taken any
courses but might in the future. Learn2.com
is an online learning site with access to learning
for a specified length of time seems to be six
months to a year. It also offers a CD for an
additional cost with online training or in some
cases the CD only. Business applications,
programming, and network courses are available. I am
going to try the Javascript course for $29.95 for
all three levels with access to online training
lasting six months. MCSE courses abound with varied
price range. Some of the courses ranges from $70.00
to $600.00. I suspect that it is much cheaper and
more convenient than getting to the city for night
courses or Sat. morning courses.
